The Curse of the Muses

Alright, its time to talk about the muse and how it has ruined the writing and art community since its conception.

Originating from the Latin word, a Muse was any of the nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne, and over time this word became intertwined with the base of human language to be intertwined with just about anything resembling art or wonder.

Amuse, Music, Museum, Musing, and of course, the calling of one or all of the Nine Daughters of Zeus to strike a fire under your ass to write your life story for you.

Even when their mythology was deeply intertwined with the Greeks, there was always a ritual and an Altar, and probably the most important aspect of this, The physical effort to call them to you.

As I write this now, my partner is in the next room learning Guitar, summoning the beautiful Euterpe. Putting her focus into the strings as she plucks them, is what will cause her to work on it more.

Falling in love with the noise, entranced by the effort, and succumbing to something as near to divinity as one can get to, only then will the Muse come, to push you further and providing you with a sense of enlightenment that will give your soul a voice.

To feel it grow inside of you, deeper than any addiction can reach, to speak in the way that calls to you, that gives you comfort and a sense of self in a selfish world.

That is the muse, not the spark, or the fire, it is the provider of wood, the shelter in the rain, the act of stoking, the warmth.

You are the spark, you are the fire, and it is your task to place the wood, stoke the fire and bask in the warmth.

I am speaking metaphorically, but if you feel like provoking the Ancient Muses to aid you in your efforts to be heard, do so, in ritual and practice, with intention, but remember to give yourself space to be entranced by the Art.
